Create / Delete Directory on Unix / Linux
The mkdir command
mkdir
stands for
m
a
k
e
dir
ectory which is used to create a new directory
Example
:
mkdir mydir
Note:
you need the write rights to create a new directory;
the newly created directory bears the permission mode of rwxrwxrwx (777)

The rmdir command
rmdir
stands for
r
e
m
ove
dir
ectory which is used to delete a empty directory
Example
:
rmdir mydir
Note:
you need the write rights to run this command.
To remove a non-empty directory, you have to use:
rm -f -r mydir
Note:
-f forcibly;
-r recursively.
