homers that cleared by a few feet
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- George Springer has more home runs in the past four games than any Kansas City player does this season. Springer homered in his fourth straight game and went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and five runs scored in the Houston Astros 9-2 victory over the Royals on Monday night. "Springer was absolutely tremendous, just line drive after line drive," Astros manager Bo Porter said. "He was special. The two doubles and the home run, the great catch in right field and scoring from second base on a bloop single that not many guys would have been able to score on. He impacted the game in every phase tonight. "This guy is a three-way player. He can impact the game when hes in the batters box. He can impact the game on defence. He can impact the game on the basepaths. He brings it every day, is what I love about him." The Astros have won three straight, matching their longest winning streak this season, and they snapped a six-game losing streak to the Royals. Springer led off the eighth with a home run against Louis Coleman, his fifth homer in four games. The Royals home run leader has four. Springer is the first Houston rookie to homer in four straight games. Lance Berkman was the previous Astros player to do it, in July 2010. "Hes impressive," said Eric Hosmer, robbed by Springer of an extra-base hit with a superb catch to end the seventh inning. "He plays hard and doesnt get cheated at the plate. He drives the ball." Springer also had two doubles and became the first Astros player to score five runs in a game since Cody Ransom on Sept. 24, 2007, against St. Louis. Springer extended his hitting streak to eight games, and is 8 for 16 with 11 RBIs and 10 runs in the past five. It was a magical night for him. "I guess," Springer said. "But at the same time, Im just trying to help the team win and whatever way I can do it, Im happy to help." Scott Feldman (3-2) held the Royals to two runs and eight hits over six innings. "I thought Scott did a tremendous job with his secondary stuff," Porter said. "His curveball had a really good bite and he did a good job for six strong innings." Royals rookie starter Yordano Ventura was led off the field by a trainer in the third inning after experiencing discomfort in his elbow. The hard-throwing right-hander is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday. "He was getting under pitches and his velocity dropped in the third inning," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "I came out and decided to check it. I talked to him in the second inning and he said, Yeah, its good. I went out and he told me he was feeling a little something in the back of his elbow, but its on the outside, not on the inside." Ventura (2-5) went 2 2-3 innings, yielding five runs on seven hits and three walks before being replaced by Michael Mariot. "In the third inning, I threw a few pitches and it started to feel a little weird," Ventura said. "I felt something unnatural. It was a little uncomfortable, unnatural, and I decided to say something." The Astros had a season-high 16 hits, including a career-high four from Marwin Gonzalez, who had a double, an RBI and a run scored. Alex Presley added three hits and Dexter Fowler reached base five times with two hits and three walks. The nine runs matched an Astros season high. Lorenzo Cain had four hits, equaling his career high, and drove in a run for the Royals, who have lost five of seven. NOTES: Royals 2B Omar Infante (lower back) was activated from the disabled list and doubled in the first inning. RHP Casey Coleman was optioned to Triple-A Omaha. ... Astros RHP Brad Peacock, scratched from Fridays scheduled outing with forearm stiffness, threw a bullpen session and was given the OK to start Thursday against Baltimore. ... Royals LHP Bruce Chen, on the disabled list with a bulging disk, threw a 25-pitch simulated game. Chen could soon go on a minor league rehab assignment. ... The Astros recalled OF Robbie Grossman from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Custom New York Rangers Jersey . -- Shortstop Omar Vizquel says he will likely retire after this season. Wayne Gretzky Blues Jersey . Brazil will open the 2014 World Cup at home Thursday against Croatia. http://www.thehockeyfanzz.com/Pittsburgh-Penguins-Tom-Barrasso-Jersey/. For the second consecutive match, Roma struggled for long stretches but like in Sundays 1-0 win over Udinese, a second-half substitute proved decisive. Alessandro Florenzi came on in the 59th and eight minutes later provided a short pass within the area to Borriello, who headed in from close range off the post. Doug Gilmour Blues Jersey . Golden Boy Promotions announced that the May 19 rematch for the WBA and IBF junior welterweight belts was called off. The statement Wednesday cited Petersons positive doping test and the Nevada Athletic Commissions inability to hold a hearing on Petersons licensing before Tuesday. Eric Fehr Penguins Jersey .A. Happ gets a chance to face his former club tonight when the Toronto Blue Jays continue their trip through Pennsylvania with a stop in Philadelphia. PHOENIX -- Red and blue lights flashed in the darkness as rap music blared and smoke filled the Washington Nationals clubhouse. The party ended at the door of the managers office. Inside it, Matt Williams, the one person who should have been celebrating, was subdued, calmly talking about his teams latest comeback win. With his teams recent struggles, he was just happy to get a win -- no matter where it was. Pinch-hitter Kevin Frandsen and Danny Espinosa each hit solo homers in the ninth inning, helping the Nationals rally for a 6-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night in Williams return to the desert. "Its good win for us," Williams said. "We needed that." Williams was a fixture in Arizona before becoming Washingtons manager this off-season. His new team scored four runs early, shut down for four innings, and tied it when Espinosa hit the second pitch of the ninth by Addison Reed (1-3) just over the wall in right. Frandsen put the Nationals up by lining his second career pinch-hit homer to left and Rafael Soriano stranded a runner at second in the ninth for his eighth save. Tyler Clippard (3-2) pitched a scoreless inning, Ian Desmond hit a two-run homer and Tyler Moore added a solo shot for Washington, which followed a three-game sweep by Oakland with its 11th comeback victory. "We needed that win," Espinosa said. "Coming off the series we just had, we really needed this. Its a good win." The Diamondbacks thought they had it. Arizona had 13 hits -- three by Aaron Hill -- and went up 5-4 when A.J. Pollock hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning. The bullpen did its job for three innings until it got to the ninth, where Reed struggled for his second blown save and Arizonas first loss when leading after eight innings (11-1). "There is not controversy here. He is our closer," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. "He has done a (heck of a) job for us. Lets not forget that. It didnt work out tonight." Williams played for Arizona from 1996-2003 and was on the coaching staff from 2010-13 before getting his first shot at managing. He received a nice ovation when he was recognized and a video tribute played on the video board after the first inning. Williams current team limped into the desert for a three-game series against his old one. The NNationals have lost five of their eight position players from opening day to the disabled list, the latest first baseman Adam LaRoche, who went out Sunday with a strained right quad.dddddddddddd The Diamondbacks have been headed in the opposite direction since getting off to the worst start in franchise history. Ten games under .500 after 18 games, Arizona has started to show signs of life, winning three straight series during a 6-3 road trip that ended Sunday. Both teams knocked the ball around the ballpark most of the night. Moore, LaRoches replacement, went 0-for-3 after being called up on Sunday, but had a quick impact in Mondays game, hitting a solo homer to left off Josh Collmenter in the second inning to put Washington up 2-0. Collmenter hit his first career double in the third inning and scored on Martin Prados ground-rule double to end Jordan Zimmermanns scoreless streak at 12 innings. Paul Goldschmidt followed with another run-scoring double and Miguel Montero drove him in with a single to put Arizona up 3-2. The lead didnt last long; Desmond lined a two-run homer to left in the fourth to put Washington back up 4-3. Collmenter allowed four runs on four hits in five innings. Pollock put Arizona on top again in the sixth inning, dropping a two-run homer onto the pool deck in right. Zimmermann allowed five runs on 10 hits in 5 2-3 innings. Randall Delgado, Evan Marshall and Brad Ziegler each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for Arizona, but Reed gave up two each in the ninth to give Williams bragging rights over his former team for at least one night. "I just have to keep the ball down and throw the ball where I am trying to throw it," Reed said. "Location is everything in pitching and right now I am leaving it over the middle of the plate." NOTES: Phoenix Mercury centre Brittney Griner threw out the ceremonial first pitch. ... Frandsens other pinch-hit homer was June 22, 2013, against the Mets... Ziegler stretched his scoreless streak to 18 1-3 innings with a perfect eighth. ... Arizona RHP Bronson Arroyo, who will start the second game against Washington on Tuesday, is 2-0 and has not allowed an earned run in 14 1-3 innings his past two starts. He will face Stephen Strasburg, who is 2-0 with a 1.37 ERA in his past four starts. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
