Dallas Stars 6, Winnipeg Jets 4 - Saturdays loss drops the Jets to a game below five hundred, both on the season overall and at home. It also extends the teams home winless skid to six. Their last win at MTS Centre was November 15 over Philadelphia. The Jets will play seven of the next 10 on the road, starting with a two-game trip -- Monday in Columbus and Tuesday in Buffalo (both games on TSN Jets, TSN Radio 1290). The Stars opened the scoring with Tyler Seguin getting his 16th; the goal coming off a bad line change by the Jets. Matt Halischuk with his third tied the game, with Mark Scheifele and Michael Frolik drawing assists. Scheifele now has seven points in his last 10 games, while Frolik has eight points in his last 11 games. Halischuk left the game later in the first with an upper-body injury. Initial indication is the injury is more than day-to-day. But the game did not stay tied for long. As was the case all game, one goal was quickly followed by another and 4:12 later Valeri Nuchushkin, the Stars 18-year-old rookie, made a great move on Ondrej Pavelec to score his fifth. A neutral zone turnover by the Jets contributed to this goal. Stars outshot the Jets 11-8 in the first. After failing to score on a five-on-three early in the second (second time in as many games after going three for three on their first three two man advantages), the Jets power play clicked for the fourth time in three games with Blake Wheeler tying the game, Olli Jokinen and Dustin Byfuglien assisting on the goal. But 48 seconds later, Jamie Benn with his 8th regained the lead for the Stars. One minute and seven seconds later, the Jets tied the game again, and again it was Wheeler. It was his 11th of the year, his sixth in six games and back-to-back two-goal games. Bryan Little with the assist to give him 22 points in the last 22 games. Then the turning point. Anthony Peluso was given five for boarding and a game misconduct for a hit on Alex Goligoski. The hit was a little late and appeared to catch Goligoski in the numbers and will certainly be reviewed by the Department of Player Safety. The Jets played the remainder of the game with 10 forwards. The Stars scored twice on the major penalty with Benn and Seguin each getting their second goal of the game. The Jets dominated the early part of the period; at one point outshooting Dallas 14-4 but in the end the shots were 16-13 Jets. To start the third, the Jets killed the remaining seconds on the power play then went to the attack and had a number of scoring chances but could not beat Kari Lehtonen. Then another defensive breakdown and Colton Sceviour on a breakaway beat Al Montoya to make it 6-3. Montoya replaced Pavelec to start the third. For Sceviour, it was his first NHL goal. Ollie Jokinen closed out the scoring with his 8th of the year with 1:41 left but the game would end 6-4. Jokinen has now surpassed his goal total from last year. Devin Setoguchi and Chris Thorburn drew assists on the goal. Shots in the third favoured the Jets 14-8 and 38-32 overall. Dallas is now 8-2-1 in their last 11 on the road. The Jets were again minus Evander Kane, although it appears he should be ready for Mondays game. Adam Pardy played in place of Keaton Ellberby. Pardy had been out the last eight. Statistically, Byfuglien lead in ice time at 27:49 and also in shots on goal with seven. He directed 15 shots at the Stars goal, with five being blocked and another three wide. Jokinen won 11 of 19 face-offs, Little nine of 16. Sergie Gonchar had a four-point game for Dallas and now has 48 points in 52 games against the Jets. Wheeler has eight points in seven career games against Dallas. Needless to say, it was a dejected Jets dressing room with comments ranging from "not acceptable" to "embarrassing." For coach Claude Noel, it was a "disappointing game and not only the result. Not a very intelligent game. Their first two goals came off bad line changes, the five minute major was costly, we wanted to contain their top line and we couldnt. It was a game we chased and every time we tied it, they would go ahead soon after. We didnt accomplish what we set out to do on this three game home stand (0-2-1). It was a step back today. I have not seen us play this way as a group for a long time. But we will regroup and start again." The Jets are now 3-11-3 inside their Central Division with the next three games against Eastern Conference teams (Columbus, Buffalo, Florida), although until this year Columbus was a Western Conference team.
