| VANCOUVER -- David Booth has been placed on unconditional waivers by the Canucks for the purpose of buying him out. If Booth clears waivers, Vancouver can use a compliance buyout on the 29-year-old forward. Booth had one year left on his contract at a salary of US$4.75 million and a salary-cap hit of $4.25 million. "We wish David all the success in the future and thank him for his contributions with the Canucks," general manager Jim Benning said in a statement. The Detroit native had nine goals and 10 assists in 66 games this past season. Injuries limited him to 12 games in the 2012-13 campaign. Like other unrestricted free agents, Booth can talk to other teams beginning June 25 and sign a new deal July 1. Buying out Booth is another change for the Canucks, who traded Roberto Luongo and fired general manager Mike Gillis and coach John Tortorella earlier this spring. The team has since hired Trevor Linden as president and Benning as GM. More moves are expected, including the hiring of a new coach. The boss at his full-time job at the Allegheny County Sheriffs Dept. says cleaning up for players who run in to legal trouble is not one of them.Allegheny County Sheriff William Mullen dismissed an ESPN report (http://es.pn/1y3VLk9) that suggested Kearney has used his influence to assist Steelers when they run afoul of the law.The report, published Thursday, suggested Kearney — who is a lieutenant in charge of the fugitive squad — helped tackle Mike Adams put together a story for authorities following a late-night incident in a popular bar area in 2013 that left Adams with multiple stab wounds.Mullen called the accusations just not true, saying Kearney has been a model employee.Kearney has moonlighted as the teams chief of security since 2001. While the job typically requires Kearney to go over the suggested 30-hour maximum for deputies who take on second careers, Mullen said it has never prevented Kearney from fulfilling his duties with the sheriffs department. Mullen said Kearney moved the truck with the permission of Pittsburgh police about 12 hours after the stabbing. Kearney apprehended one of the three men arrested in the alleged attack, which Mullen said is just an example of Kearney doing his job.
